$991 in 5 minutes

A couple months back while my husband and I were at his 10 year High School reunion Chloe and Evan were being cared for by family. We received a panic filled phone call that Chloe had stuck a popcorn kernel up her nose. After much discussion and multiple phone calls it seemed that Chloe was OK and not being bothered so we stayed at the reunion.

That Monday Adam brought home his doctor bag from work and had a look up Chloe's nose. Yep, WAAAAAAY up there lies a little popcorn kernel. To far to reach, to lodged to blow out of her nose, so that meant one thing....a trip to the ER. Adam and Chloe left for the ER after dinner while Evan and I stayed back home. I HATED being away from Chloe when I knew she needed me most but it made the most sense that Adam go with his medical background. They waited for hours in the ER.

Finally around 10pm I get a phone call that it is out! YEAH! It took 3 tries and after all that waiting, and only 5 minutes. Adam was so thoughtful to bring back the popcorn kernel..I have it still sitting on my vanity in our bathroom, I need to think of something creative to do with it now.

Since this time we have been bracing for the ER bill and yesterday was the day...the bill arrived. I have sure from the label of my post, you guessed it...it cost $991 for 5 minutes in the ER! Can you believe it!

I am not one for health care reform the way it stands presently. I do however think something needs to be done...it seems assanign (sp?) that 5 minutes of time and using a tool you can buy for $10 on the Internet to get out a popcorn kernel would end up being a bill for $991. Something is wrong with that math.

Funny enough, Chloe STILL loves popcorn!

Cheers,
Beth
